I come to my photographs by way of The Theatre. I have spent the greater part of my life near or around a stage ( occasionally on it). Photographs, for me, are a bit like pieces of drama. They tell a story, however simple, in a setting, however created.
My photographs are scenery perhaps. They are the central image of whatever plot there is in what I’ve seen. But there are lots of photographers and their vision is equally “dramatic,” I am sure.
I haven’t concentrated on any particular theme, not do I intend to. I wander and so does my camera. Lately, I have discovered a new way to present my photographs.
I don’t have any lofty philosophical justification for what I do, nor do I envision any rarified place reserved for “the artiste,” in me. I am suspect of that sort of introspection, having read too many artist’s statements. I love making photographs. When it all works, it’s like a well written play, replete with all its attending emotion, basking in its own light.
